Nasher Sculpture Center

This is part of an ongoing series of actions, inventions, and artworks which began in 2012 as a collaboration with my father (an HVAC technician) to create a machine that kept a block of ice frozen in the open air. I went on to invent a machine that would “refreeze” glaciers, simultaneously creating drinkable water through the removal of salt from sea water.

I spoke about my idea at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington D.C. in 2018, as an artist. I explained how I lacked the ability to understand the long term effects such an action could have on the planet at large.

This work was made in the aftermath of my attempt to have a hand in saving the world. The yellow ball on the top of the hose is hovering and bouncing around on the air current, alternating between a smiley face on one side and a frowning face on the other. An image of my proposed machine is pinned to the work.

This artwork is in the permanent collection of the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, Texas.
